Health notice
Sipumo helps you keep track of your drinks. The app is not a medical device, makes no diagnoses and does not replace medical advice.
How Sipumo suggests your goal
The suggestion is based on the reference values of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for an adequate total water intake of healthy people. Total water includes drinks and food. Because about a fifth of it comes from food, Sipumo suggests 80 % of the EFSA value as the amount to drink.
- 2 to 3 years
- EFSA 1.3 l · suggestion 1.0 l
- 4 to 8 years
- EFSA 1.6 l · suggestion 1.3 l
- 9 to 13 years
- boys EFSA 2.1 l · suggestion 1.7 l; girls EFSA 1.9 l · suggestion 1.5 l
- 14 years and older
- men EFSA 2.5 l · suggestion 2.0 l; women EFSA 2.0 l · suggestion 1.6 l
- sex not specified
- the mean of both, so 1.8 l from 14 years and 1.6 l from 9 to 13 years
- no date of birth
- the values from 14 years
- a lot of exercise or sweating
- plus 0.5 l from 14 years, plus 0.25 l for children
The suggestion is rounded to 100 ml and always lies between 1 and 5 litres. There is no age-appropriate suggestion for children under two; Sipumo is not meant for babies and toddlers. You can set your goal yourself at any time.

A guide, not a rule
The EFSA values apply to healthy people at moderate temperatures and with moderate activity. Your actual need depends on your body, health, weather, activity and diet and can differ considerably. Sipumo does not know your state of health and measures nothing; what it shows is based only on your entries.
When to seek medical advice
Talk to your doctor before following a drinking goal, especially
- if you have heart or kidney disease or have been told to drink a specific or limited amount,
- if you take medicines that affect your fluid balance, such as diuretics,
- during pregnancy and breastfeeding,
- in great heat, during long endurance exercise, or with fever, diarrhoea or vomiting,
- at an older age, when the sense of thirst weakens.
More is not better
Drinking much more than you need brings no benefit. Very large amounts in a short time can be dangerous because they upset the body’s salt balance. Sipumo limits the daily goal to at most 5 litres but does not warn you if you drink more. In the family duel, progress towards your own goal counts up to 100 %; drinking more earns no lead.
Children
Children should use Sipumo together with their parents. Parents set the goal and make sure the child drinks according to thirst, not to reach a goal or a creature.
